Description

Chenin Blanc is a classic wine variety. It was a very popular variety in the 1970s and 1980s but sadly it has declined in recent decades. Sadly many vineyards in California have been replanted for economic reasons. Some of those that remain can produce exceptional results. Today South Africa and France dominate about 80% of the plantings. However, there has been increased interest in countries like Mexico and Thailand. This seminar will take a look at this variety with a global view. We will focus on France, South Africa and the US but will seek out references from other countries. We will examine the variety in its various forms. We will look at different wine styles and winemaking techniques. Finally, we will assess an older example or two.
