The Ayres family have been commercial and residential developers since 1905, Douglas Ayres visited the Central Coast throughout his youth, and fell in love with the beauty that Paso Robles offered. He decided he wanted to establish a vineyard resort where wine enthusiasts could find a tranquil place to rest, relax, and renew.
The Allegretto Vineyard Resort opened and welcomed guests in 2015, and the first estate vintage was harvested in 2017. Today Allegretto Vineyard is comprised of 7 acres of vines and include the following varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Tannat, Merlot, Viognier and Vermentino. In 2013 Doug acquired the Willow Creek Vineyard in the Willow Creek AVA. This 18-acre vineyard included Cabernet Sauvignon vines that were established in 1997. Today other estate varietals on the property include Malbec, Cab Franc, Petite Verdot, and Merlot.
Doug utilizes sustainable practices on both vineyards by emphasizing biodynamic farming practices which follow the biodynamic calendar, that provides detailed optimal times for sowing, transplanting, cultivation, harvesting and using the biodynamic preparations. These practices promote the forces that work dynamically within the soil, compost, and plants to ultimately provide us with healthier bodies, and a healthier planet. Doug is determined to deliver the best possible grapes that allow his winemaker the best opportunity to craft exceptional wines. The drive is for quality over quantity fruit, and the purpose is to provide joy to others through excellent estate produced wines.
