Speaker Bio
Matthew Glunz is a winemaker and owner of Glunz Family Winery and Cellars in Paso Robles, California. Matthew has been working in the wine industry for nearly 40 years, starting as a child washing bottles for his family’s wine wholesale company, Louis Glunz Wines at the age of five. Through grade school and high school he slowly graduated from working the bottling line and started helping on the delivery trucks and in the warehouse of the family’s wine wholesale company in the city. That company, Louis Glunz Wines, started as a wine and beer importer on the north side of Chicago by his great grandparents in 1888 and is still in business today.

While attending Xavier University in Cincinnati, Matthew worked at a fine wine store by the name of The Wine Merchant where he learned more about selling wine and retail operations. It was after college when he decided to move west to the Willamette Valley in Oregon and worked in the cellar at Rex Hill under Lynn Penner Ash.

In 2000 Matthew joined Murphy Goode Estate Winery in Sonoma County and worked in the cellar making wine for three years while he attended viticulture classes at Napa College and UC Davis.

In 2003 Matthew moved back to Chicago and worked as a fine wine sales representative at Louis Glunz Wines, the family’s importing and distribution company.

In 2008 Matthew took over the family winery and in 2013 moved the operation to its current location in Paso Robles, California, where he is currently the winemaker and owner along with his brother, Stephan. Matthew is married with four sons and loves living and making wine on the central coast of California.
