Volcanic soils only account for about 1% of the earth's surface but they support a disproportionate amount of the world's viticulture. In many instances, volcanic influences are most prevalent in lesser-known regions and support indigenous varieties. More recently, volcanic sites have been studied in the new world using international classic grape varities. This guided tasting will explain the nature of volcanic soil in its various forms. We will examine the volcanic fingerprint using both white and red wines from both old and new world regions.
